homemade subwoofer

the basket is made from hardboard (wood-based panel) and universal glue. it's very lightweight, but a bit flexy. there are two stacked magnets from two old loudspeakers. the voice coil: 0.45mm (25 awg), 58m length, 6cm diameter, 4 layers, apr. 75 turns per layer, 6 ohm DC resistance, don't know the impedance. wound on varnished paper cylinder. the cone is 8" and weighs about 120g. the speaker sensitivity is poor because on the same volume levels it doesn't perform as good as my 87db sensitivity subwoofer and it also distorts a bit. maximum one way excursion is about 2,5cm with the pontetiality for more. the suspension is from strips of elastic, the surround is made from tape and paper. power handling - i would say around 70-80 watts rms, because when i play it with a 110 watt amplifier the coil heats and smokes in about 30 secs.
design considerations: the basket should be stronger; there should be more room for excursion; obviously the surround should be made from something else but i couldn't figure out how; don't know how to increase heat dissipitation - the main factor for power handling; the cone and voice coil should be lighter for more sensitivity; i'm also building a ported box for the speaker - will upload video when done
